Something Beautiful for God/Algo Bello Para Dios

Recently we have been able to lend medical support to the work of “Algo Bello Para Dios” (Something Beautiful for God), a residential centre in the city of Iquitos.

For the residents, their struggle is as much psychological as it is physical and the atmosphere is sometimes bleak, yet their readiness to laugh and most of all, their courageous faith is humbling. The environment is peaceful (which is no small feat in such a noisy city!) and restful, and is very much ‘home’ for the patients who have turned to Algo Bello for help.

‘A bruised reed He will not break and a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish’ Isaiah 42:3

The Peru Mission assists Raymundo with of the cost of this work. The main financial challenges are:

Electricity, medicines (anti-retrovirals), food for a healthy diet, bedding and laundry costs, nursing care and the rent of the premises. Local families help with whatever they can bring…food, such as fruits, fish, salads and meat, but every month it is a struggle to meet the budget. Maltese priest, Padre Raymundo Portelli, runs a Residential Centre for 18 people dealing with the consequences of HIV/AIDS infection. A roof, bed, food and friendship make life more bearable. Prayer, Scripture study sessions, visits by local youth groups bring joy to the residents.
